Battle in the Sky (Part 2)
Black Dragons were among the strongest of Magical Beasts. Black Dragons were generally ninth-rank Magical Beasts, and the powerful members of their race could even reach Saint-level. Whether ninth-rank Magical Beasts or Saint-level Magical Beasts, they were far beyond the Raptor they had encountered yesterday.
At that moment, the children and three instructors on the open ground east of Wushan Town stood only a few hundred meters from the Black Dragon. Observing a black dragon more than a hundred meters long from such close range was more shocking than any words could describe.
Most astonishing of all—
A gray-robed man stood proudly atop the Black Dragon’s head as it circled through the air. The gale howled, making his robe flap loudly, but he stood as straight as a spear and as steady as a boulder. He was staring at a middle-aged man in green who stood in midair with a longsword on his back.
The gray-robed man standing on the Black Dragon was confronting the green-robed man with the sword.
Standing in midair!
Apart from Wind-element magi who could cast the seventh-rank spell Flight, only Saint-level experts could stand in midair. The green-robed man had a sword on his back, which made his identity clear.
A warrior—a Saint-level warrior.
“A gray-robed man who has tamed a Black Dragon? And a Saint-level expert who can fly?” Although Linley was only eight years old and had witnessed a great battle the day before, he was still completely stunned by the sight. Not only he, but even Hillman, a sixth-rank warrior, was dumbfounded.
...
“A Saint-level expert. They are Saint-level experts.” Hillman muttered, his whole body trembling slightly.
Worthy of a man who had experienced life and death many times, Hillman was the first to fully recover. Yet even after regaining his senses, the past two days still felt unreal. “Yesterday, an eighth-rank dual-element magus came. Today is even worse: two Saint-level experts and a Black Dragon have appeared. I, Hillman, have never been so shaken in my life.”
Hillman felt slightly dizzy.
Black Dragons were peak Magical Beasts, at least ninth-rank. A person who could tame one was very likely a Saint-level expert. From another perspective, only a Saint-level expert would dare confront another Saint-level expert.
All this showed that the gray-robed man was a Saint-level expert.
Hillman’s group stood several hundred meters from the Black Dragon. No matter how sharp their hearing, they could not hear the conversation between the two Saint-level experts facing each other.
No one knew what the two Saint-level experts were saying. Then, as they spoke—
“Roar!”
The enormous Black Dragon suddenly let out an angry roar and violently beat its huge wings. A terrifying pressure spread out at once. Everyone, including Hillman, felt unable to breathe as their legs went weak.
“Is this Dragon’s Might?” Linley felt a huge boulder crushing his heart, making it impossible to breathe. Yet he was still excited, and the blood in his body boiled.
This Black Dragon was simply too powerful.
“Rudi! Don’t go too far!” The green-robed man suddenly shouted. His shout boomed through heaven and earth like thunder. Not only Hillman’s group, but everyone in Wushan Town heard it.
That shout also dispelled the Black Dragon’s Dragon’s Might, and everyone could breathe normally again.
Hillman froze, muttering, “Rudi? Rudi?”
But only a moment later, he suddenly reacted. He spun toward the children and shouted sternly, “Everyone, go home! Quickly, go home! All of you, get home and hide properly! Hurry!” Hillman’s roar and fierce expression left all the children stunned.
Hillman understood clearly.
The two Saint-level experts plainly had a conflict and appeared ready to fight.
If Saint-level experts fought while a group of children remained on this open ground without any buildings to protect them, even the slightest spillover of Saint-level power could cost every child their life. Saint-level experts possessed power capable of destroying heaven and earth.
Though “destroying heaven and earth” was somewhat exaggerated, destroying a city or flattening a mountain was perfectly normal.
“Go! Stop staring and get home! Hurry!” Hillman shouted again, pushing some of the children as well.
Only then did all the youths fully wake up. Though they did not understand why Hillman wanted them to go home, and though they still wanted to watch the battle of Saint-level experts, Hillman’s authority made them all run quickly toward their homes.
“Rory, Roger, quickly! Take the six- and seven-year-old children home. Hurry! If the battle of the Saint-level experts reaches this place, the consequences...”
Hillman’s face was full of urgency.
“Yes, Captain.” Rory and Roger completely understood what their captain was thinking.
Rory and Roger immediately began carrying the smaller children who could not keep up—two in their arms and another two on their backs. Hillman joined them, swiftly picking up children one after another.
“Linley, get home quickly.” While carrying children as he ran, Hillman called out to Linley.
“I know, Uncle Hillman,” Linley answered loudly.
Though Linley was only eight, he could run as fast as a fourteen-year-old. As he ran, he kept turning back to look at the eastern sky. The circling Black Dragon and the two Saint-level experts held him completely spellbound.
“Captain, Lord Hogg sent us here.” Eleven or twelve warriors ran over from the direction of the Baruch estate. On seeing Hillman, they immediately called out.
“Quickly, take the children home,” Hillman ordered at once.
“Yes, Captain.” The warriors hurriedly agreed and began swiftly carrying home the six- and seven-year-old children who were too slow.
“Everyone, go home! Go home! Hide yourselves and protect yourselves!” Hillman shouted.
Hillman held great authority in Wushan Town. His words told many people who were frightened by the Black Dragon what to do. The entire town became a hive of activity. All children and working people returned home. At this time, only sturdy stone houses could protect them.
Linley ran straight into his home.
“Quickly, hide in the storage cellar.” Hogg was standing in the courtyard. When he saw Linley, he immediately shouted. The storage cellar was the largest and strongest basement in the Baruch estate. Inside it, they would certainly be able to preserve their lives.
“Yes, Father.” Linley nodded repeatedly and immediately ran toward the storeroom.
Linley ran swiftly, but he kept thinking about the gray-robed man standing on the Black Dragon and the man in green. He looked toward the eastern sky again. The town’s buildings were low, so he could clearly see the air several hundred meters to the east.
At that moment, the Black Dragon kept growling.
“Tilon, since you insist on being so stubborn, you cannot blame me.” A cold voice echoed through the sky. Then the Black Dragon began roaring furiously, black flames pouring from its mouth.
“Rudi, today I will see just how powerful you, a Saint-level magus, truly are!” the green-robed man shouted angrily.
